Diego Costa will move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid in January, subject to a medical and personal terms, the English club have confirmed. The transfer is reportedly worth around £50m.
Talks have been taking place between the clubs for a while now, and would have more than likely been agreed earlier in the summer, but Atletico can’t sign players until January anyway after being given a transfer ban.
Diego Costa refused to return to Chelsea and said he wouldn’t play for them again after he said he was told by text message that he wasn’t in Antonio Conte’s plans for this season. He stayed at his family home in Brazil when asked to return and get himself fit for selection by Chelsea.
The Brazilian striker, who plays international football for Spain, scored 59 goals in 120 matches for Chelsea, and won two league titles after joining in 2014. He scored 20 Premier League goals last season to help the Blues win the title.
