Good morning and happy Thursday. Since I wasn’t here yesterday, I’m going to do a quick round-up of the news that’s doing the rounds. We’ll start with what happened on Tuesday because there are a couple of things I want to talk about.
We’ll start with Wolves, who look like they’re going to have a brilliant season in the Premier League. They announced that they have signed Joao Moutinho from Monaco. The 31-year-old midfielder, who has 113 caps for Portugal, moved from Monaco for around £5m and signed a two-year deal. It’s a brilliant signing for the newly-promoted club, who look set to have a really good season. I can’t see them struggling to stay up if I’m honest. They’re showing real ambition; fair play to them.
I see some people giving out about them on social media, but what’s the problem? People don’t seem to like that they’re spending money, but if they have it, why not? Is it that people are jealous of the money they’re spending and they want their club to do the same? I don’t know, but if they have the money, there’s no harm in them investing in their squad and giving themselves a great chance of doing well in the Premier League. I can see them finishing around mid-table or even in the top half next season.
Fulham, who are another newly-promoted club, announced yesterday that they have signed Andre Schurrle from Borussia Dortmund. The ex-Chelsea man moves to London on a two-year loan deal. I’ve been surprised to find out that he’s just 27. I thought he would have been around 30 by now, but that’s not the case. He looked brilliant for Chelsea at times when he was there, so we’ll see if he can produce something similar for Fulham. I’m not quite sure how he’s done since he left, but it’s a great signing regardless. I’d say he’ll do well there.
Fulham also announced that they have signed goalkeeper Fabricio Agosto Ramirez from Besiktas. 30-year-old ‘Fabri’ has signed a three-year deal, with the club having the option to add another year.
Traveling up to Merseyside now, and Everton announced that they signed Richarlison from Watford. The 21-year-old Brazilian winger moves for a fee of between 40 and 50 million pounds. Some reports say 40, some say 50, and I have no idea which ones are closer to the actual figure. It’s a huge amount of money for a player that has just played in England for one season though.
I remember watching him in the first half of last season and thinking that he was absolutely brilliant. He really did look like a great signing. I don’t remember thinking that in the second half of the season though. Maybe I just didn’t watch Watford as much in the second half as I did in the first half. Maybe they weren’t shown on TV as much, so that’s why I don’t remember. I have to add that I don’t remember him having many really poor games either.
He’s moving for a huge amount of money, and Everton are taking a bit of a risk on him. Obviously Marco Silva has seen what he can do and has convinced Everton to splash out and buy him. With him being young, he could really develop into a top, top player. He could be ripping the league up in three years’ time and Everton could be getting offers of over £200m for him if the market keeps going mad. It’ll be worth the big investment then! I think he’ll do well there, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Watford must absolutely despise Everton now!
A few quick ones listed off now because I’m running out of time.
Tom Ince left Huddersfield and signed for Stoke in a deal that could reach £12m. It didn’t quite happen for him there, but he’s a hero after scoring a late winner against Watford late last season that went a long way towards the Terriers staying up.
Bournemouth announced that they have signed Spanish defender Diego Rico for an undisclosed fee from Leganes. That fee is said to be worth around £11m.
Jordy Clasie has left Southampton and gone on loan to Feyenoord for the season.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas says Yerry Mina would prefer to play for his side over Everton because they are in the Champions League. He hinted that Mina has told him he would rather go to Lyon, but didn’t say that directly.
Brighton have announced that they have signed Alireza Jahanbakhsh from AZ Alkmaar on a five-year deal for a club record fee. The 24-year-old Iranian moves for a fee of around £20m. I have never heard of the lad before, but he was the top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie last season. We’ll see how he does.
Jonny Castro Otto has joined Wolves on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid. The full-back, who can play on either side, was only bought by Atletico from Celta Vigo this summer.
This morning, Chelsea announced that they have signed goalkeeper Rob Green. Green was most recently at Huddersfield, where he failed to make a single appearance for the club. Huddersfield opted against renewing his contract. He is coming in as third-choice, so just like Lee Grant signing for Man Utd; this move makes sense.
And that’s that for this morning. The blog is a bit quicker than I would like and a bit rushed at the end, but it had to be done. Hopefully I’ll be back tomorrow with some in-depth stuff, but we’ll see how that goes. You know where to find your news during the day. I’ll be back tomorrow morning, so see you then. Have a good one.
