Liverpool are in pole position to sign Diogo Leite from Porto this summer, according to a report in the Guardian.
The report says that Porto are determined to keep their 19-year-old centre-back, but Liverpool have made their interest in him clear after watching him play for Porto’s B team this season.
Arsenal and Man City are also interested in the Portuguese, with Arsenal willing to pay his €15m release clause, according to reports in Portugal. But Liverpool are the front runners to secure his signature, as under Jurgen Klopp, they are building a reputation of developing young talent.
The report says that he will be immediately sent out on loan if Liverpool do manage to sign him because they want to ensure he’s playing regular, first-team football.
Leite played at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night, where he helped Porto’s Under-23 side beat their Arsenal counterparts. There were reportedly a host of Premier League scouts at the game to watch him.
The Guardian also reported yesterday that Bournemouth are interested in signing his defensive partner, Diogo Queiros. He would join the Cherries for around £10m, if reports are to be believed.
