Rooney in US for talks with DC United, James Collins to leave West Ham

Good morning. I thought today was Friday, but then I realised it’s actually not. This makes me sad.

There were reports last night that Wayne Rooney is over in Washington for talks with DC United. This is a move that has been talked about for a few weeks now, and it seems like it’s going to happen. I don’t think somebody flies all the way over there unless they’re really thinking about doing it. Reports were saying that there is nothing agreed yet. Not a transfer fee with Everton, and not a wage package with Rooney. I would be surprised if they didn’t get this over the line at this stage though.

Everton surely know DC United are serious or they wouldn’t have allowed them to speak to Rooney. It seems they’re willing to let him go – at the right price anyway – so I think this is the end of Wayne Rooney in the Premier League. What a player he was. That’s something for another day.

Unai Emery was announced as the new Arsenal manager yesterday. I wrote a bit about him the other day, which you can read here if you like. I didn’t watch any of his press conference, and just saw some quotes, but people were quite impressed by the way he spoke. I think it’ll be very interesting to see how he gets on at Arsenal.

The build-up to the Champions League final is beginning. It’s been going on for a few days anyway, but I’m starting to see more and more about it. I’m sure most Liverpool fans are unbelievably nervous already, even though it’s two days away. It’s a game I’m really looking forward to, of course. It should be a great one. There’ll be more build-up to that closer to the time, especially on Saturday when I do a match preview and all the rest.

James Collins announced yesterday that he would be leaving West Ham. He said on his Instagram page, “As it stands I will be leaving West Ham on June 30th… Heartbroken.” It’s a bit of a surprise to me, to be honest. He loves it at West Ham, and they absolutely love him there. The fans certainly want him given a new deal. He gives absolutely everything when he pulls the shirt on, and they’re the kind of players you want. I’m not sure if this is to do with Manuel Pellegrini or the West Ham board. You’d nearly think they’d give him a new deal just to get on their fans good side! The last thing they need is to upset the fans after what we saw at the London Stadium earlier in the season. There’s still time for him to be given a new deal, I suppose, so you never know.

There doesn’t seem to be too much else going on at the moment. There are some transfer rumours doing the rounds, but that’s something I’m trying to avoid unless the deal looks likely. I don’t want Premplace to be one of these unreliable click-bait bullshit websites, so I’m trying to make sure everything is reliable.

Anyway, that’s it from me for now. You know where to get your news throughout the day. I’ll be back tomorrow, as always. Have a good Thursday.
