Arsenal wore their iconic redcurrant home shirt and kit during the 05/06 season. This kit was worn to commemorate Arsenal’s final season at Highbury before they moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2006. The kit resembled the kit that Arsenal wore in their first season at Highbury in 1913. The home Arsenal kit featured a gold o2 logo and gold players’ names and numbers.

Many of Arsenal’s biggest legends turned out in the redcurrant home shirt and kit during the 2005 06 season, including Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg and Sol Campbell, to name but a few. This period of time is remembered by Arsenal fans as one of the most exciting times in their recent history. The squad contained many players from the Invincibles season of 2003/2004 and the Gunners played extremely exciting, free-flowing attacking football.

While many Arsenal fans will remember their 05/06 home shirt and kit as the iconic redcurrant colours, it wasn’t a particularly successful season for the club. Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Barcelona in the Champions League final in Paris in 2006 while wearing their yellow away kit. This is as much detail about that game as we will go into here because the majority of Arsenal fans won’t want to hear about it (but if you do, here are some useful links). Arsenal finished 4th in the league, while pipping their north London rivals Tottenham to Champions League qualification on the final day of the season.

Arsenal’s away shirt and kit in 2005/2006 was yellow with a dark grey o2 logo, shorts and socks. Perhaps the fondest memory Arsenal fans will have of this kit is of Thierry Henry racing away from Real Madrid’s defenders at the Bernabeu, when the Gunners won 1-0 in the Champions League last 16. Arsenal were the first ever English club to beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

This goal of the season video shows off some of Arsenal’s best moments in both their home and away kits and shirts in the 2005 06 season.
